The heat was unbearable - it had to have been at least 95 degrees. So what did we do? We went to an herbal sauna, of course. The heat was intense (almost unbearable), but afterward the scorching Laotian sun didn't seem to have its usual energy sapping effect.
The Royal Stupa
Our sightseeing of Vientiane began with its most famous landmark, That Luang (Royal Stupa). Each city in Laos has one, but the one in Vientiane is the most magnificent. The great golden monument dates back to 1566.

Victory Monument
Our sightseeing of Vientiane ended with the Patuxai (Anousavary) - the Victory Monument. This triumphal arch is similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, though I think this comparison is unfair to the latter. Still, the Victory Monument is beautiful in its own right, and offers those who climb to the top a great view of the city. The architecture is interesting because it appears as if a small castle was constructed atop the arch.
