On Thursdays and Sunday, thousands of merchants, artisans, and tourists descend upon the small town of Chichicastenango to participate in the largest indigenous market in Central America. What blew me away was the vividness and variety of the colors. Other than that, to be frank, I was quite unimpressed with the market. I've been to many markets, and Chichi struck me as being the most touristic of them all. Although the narrow crowded streets were chock full of vendors selling various artesania, I quickly realized that they were all selling the same things. Of course, this is a huge benefit to anyone interested in purchasing items. Instead of buying stuff, I spent most of my time taking pictures and just taking in the vibrant sights, sounds, and smells of the market.
